SALVINI

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Keep in mind that older males can pass the 8 inch mark by a good margin. I had a male that hit 9 inches (excluding tail of course), and have seen an 10+ inch male at my lfs. Highly aggressive, breeding pairs can take down deceptively large tankmates. My first pair (male 9 inches, female 4.5 inches) completely cleaned out a 90g. In a 125, tankmates are an option even with a pair, but as mentioned before, limit to other medium-large robust cichlids and perhaps some of the larger species of schooling characins (silver dollars, nurse tetras, etc).

man thay look awsome i herd thay like caves but as a singal are thay aggressive or just when breeding

whats a good price for one and how fast do thay grow could one live in a 55 gallon for a while till i get there 125

like 4 to 6 bucks is good price for like a 2 to 3 inch fish. They aren't the fastest growers. Probably .5 inch every month and a half to 2 months. 55 gallon is perfect. It can live its entire life in there so your good.

but what about tankmates can thay be kept with other cichlids or with other fish i herd thay have big territorys what about a knife fish would it just get shredded

i have a little salvini thats about 3-4 inches and she doesnt pick on anyone in my tank, even the smaller fish like my eel and my little frontosa

My vote would go to the female.

We have some in a 55 breeder all about 3" with same size motoguensis flower horn and a rtc/tsn cross. One has decided to go into breeding mode and has everyone else pinned in a corner! I've seen some that were unbelievably aggressive and others that were totally chill. I def agree that it depends on the individual fish, but as whole pretty aggressive.
