sand is easier. you dont have to vacuum it. all the waste stay on top. it is actually a lot less work. just make sure filter intakes are installed a little higher than normal so they dont suck in sand

I spent hours twice a week keeping my sand clean. Any substrate like sand or gravel needs to be vacumed. Anyone who chooses to keep rays is not lazy by a long way as they are verry demanding and the choice is your own.

Mine only takes a few minutes of vaccing once per week and my sand is always clean.

Once vac'd I rake it all level to avoid any missed areas.

My 4x Rays vacume my sand themselfes, i told them to To be serious, i think the motoros i have turn the tank over many times a day.
