  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No i actually used brown... I could not find black:irked:

It looks sweet though..:headbang2

I do see **** all over the sand now that you say that.

I will do a water change Tuesday to see how hard it is to clean.
Should I shut off the filters when I do this?

You know, it probably doesn't help now....but I found black sand that's aquarium safe. It's on Drsfostersmith.com . I'm gonna order some for my tank. For those out there still looking for it....order after me so they don't run out. LOL!

I like pool filter sand. It's cheap. If you suck some out during vacs, it's no big deal at $6.95 per 50lbs. The poop being visible is an advantage. It's right there on top, making it easy to see and remove. :D

I want to get sand for my 125, but i have an Oscar and i'm afraid he'll spit sand into the filter intakes.

Let us sand newbies know how it works for you.

I wonder if anyone has Sand with Oscars.

Ok so I have had sand for about a week now. It looks totally awesome! I did a water change yesterday and shut my filters off when I was doing it and still had some filter problems. I had to clean out my filters 2 or 3 times afterwards. I don't feel like I did a very good water change because I could not stick the vacuum down in the sand because it will suck it right out. I decided to use panty hose over the intake to help prevent entry of sand. The fish don't really stir it up to bad and it does settle quickly(if you use pool filter sand.) But I wouldn't go back to gravel, sand looks killer!

I've seen black sand before at my building supply store. Its sandblasting sand. But I'm not sure if you can use it in a aquarium. I think it's the silica based sand but not sure. End of

sorry new to this stuff, but being that i have and RTC and he just typacally stays on the bottom, if i were to put sand in the tank would he just keep causeing the sand to get stirred up?
