Sand or gravel? Help me out please

Having had gravel and sand in my tanks, personally i prefer the look of sand > gravel... plus, if you have a lot of bottom dwelling fish, they will probably appreciate the sand more...

from what i've read on here the only downside to having TOO MUCH sand is that there could be air pockets where waste rots and creates ammonia. a stirring of the sand every once in a while should solve that problem

i used to have play sand, then i discover bare bottom and it is 10 times better IMO. and plus it makes all of my fish more active.

Ok so if I stir the sand around like 2 times a month should I be good or should I consider it a weekly thing

I use pool filter sand in my tanks and it does not cloud the tank at all. It worked out very well. However, it has caused some impeller damage on my tanks that I do not use a fluval cannister filter. The sand does not bother my fluval at all. I have a pretty deep sand bed, about 2.5"
