Sand gets my vote just looks and stays so much cleaner.

I use sand bought from the reptile dept in my lps, its just all natural sand, tripple washed and bagged, nothing added. It looks great, easyer to clean and the fish love it.

I vote sand . Looks better, easyier to clean, depends on the fish thow what the like more thow. One easy way to combat sand in filters. Is to just stuff a sponge on the intake. iight guys next question: what color sand would look good with a dark blue background? im not talking pink or blue but like natural colors. i was originaly thinking small dark gravel chips but for a 180 with a 12sq' foot print it would be like $75 and plain white sand will wash out the color of my fish, so what should i do?

go for a darker brown/tan color, orangeish color... you can also go black... ?

i like the quartz lol yea i was thinking black but wit a dark blue background? not sure it would look too good

M 55gal is setup with sand, have not introduced fish yet, but I like the look of sand...increases the brightness of the tank, since light reflects of it nicely!
