I used it in one of my tanks.. I also used pool filter sand.. Both worked fine.. just beware if you have fish in the tank it can be VERY cloudy and possibly not the best for your fish.

Play sand is very fine and easily clouds up. If you have small fish its fine, large fish its definatly a big No. Everytime your fish move your tank will cloud over, possibly clogging your filters in the process. PFS (pool filter sand) is a good/cheap alternative. Crushed coral or other pet store sands are the best as they contain helpful minerals and other components beneficial to your fish, but also costs the most. Your easiest alternative is pea stones (come in various sizes and colours) or my personal preference, porcelain tile.

1+
You could also use sand blasting sand.

I use play sand in my African tank, and my male kenyi is constantly making breeding pits everyday but my water isn't cloudy. I guess it depends on the brand.

About a pound a gallon give or take. Here's 200 lbs in a 300. Scape courtesy of the fish .....

What about
Vigoro 0.5 cu. ft. Pea Pebbles
Wich would make the gar and red wolfs color pop out more or easier to clean?
