Sand sifting freshwater fish, any ideas?

Actually I think petsmart does have some eartheaters right now as a special. I can't remember what species, but they had some last time I was at mine.

LOL if you say so, but even goldfish are aggressive with their meals. I thought aggressive meant things that went out of their way to hurt other things. A red devil would probably kill everything else in that tank.

You could find smaller species of ray. They constantly shift the sand around. I'd still be worried about the Oscar with Eartheaters, though. When they realize a certain fish won't stand up to them, they sometimes bully.

The Oscar would, indeed, be the wild card. My Oscar has never bothered anybody, though. If attacked he just tries to swim away and takes the beating. I've seen other Oscars that are mean, but the majority seem to fall somewhere between pushover and killer.

Aggressive around here usually means flowerhorn, black shark, Red Devil, Midas, puffer, etc. You know, the outright killers.

Lol well sorry for the mistake. I do have a bluegil sunfish and big mouth black bass though, those fish are extremely aggressive. The bass will kill things bigger than itself just because it doesn't like the looks of it lol so that has to get me a little credit around here.

And if anyone knows any species of eartheater that I could get from Petsmart I'll start doing some research to see if it'd work for me

I wish I could do rays, but they are illegal in Texas

My oscar is extremely peaceful. He is currently with 4 Geo. abalios and a Bahia red (awesome fish BTW) and even several smaller cichlids and he doesn't touch any of them. It really depends on the temperment of your oscar though.

As far as Geo species at Petsmart, I believe I remember seeing "surinamensis" there which are likely actually abalios or one of the similar species and maybe brasiliensis. Either of these could possibly work in your setup

The oscar I'm babysitting doesn't bother anyone but my archer fish, and they have a bit of a mutually antagonistic relationship. The oscar will sneak up on the archer and make him swim off, the archer will charge at him from across the tank.
I initially moved the oscar from growout to my main display because he was picking on the Geophagus 'Rio Branco', but once I moved the Geophagus to the same tank the oscar wasn't interested in him.

As long as the oscar has something to keep him distracted and whatever you're adding doesn't fit in his mouth, there's a good chance of success.

The best sand sifter I have is my giraffe catfish. He is in my 200 gallon african tank. I wouldn't suggest him for your tank though because he can get 3 feet long or so. I do like the idea of geos for your tank.
