here's the samoa pink sand in my tropheus tank
i have been looking for this sand for a bit now and i found a bunch of different kinds, so what sand is that exactly? CUS I WANT SOME!!!
try turface pro, it comes in different colors and is inert clay, you can cap some dolomite or aragonite and it would look awesome, i like the tan and red mixed and its very very cheap, last time i checked was .39/pound but that was about a year ago, shouldn't be more
black on black can work just depends on your hardscape and how large and bright your plants are and your lighting will play a big part, i find using 10000k and 14000k duo is the best coloration, it maintains a blueish hue that makes it look like night time all of the time yet the plants can photosynthesize. looks really good in tall tanks
There's absolutely nothing wrong with using play sand. I've been using it for 3 years in my loach tank and 2 years in my gourami/cory tank.
The kind I got from Menard's (for those not in the midwest, it's like Lowe's/Home Depot) has tiny rocks in it, too, so it looks more natural than PFS. The only drawback is that it takes longer to rinse.
Ive used play sand in at least one of my tanks (usually more) for over 15 years in fresh and brackish and never had a single issue, and I also use black diamond blasting sand for black and Ive kept synodontis and other catfish and never had an issue with the coarse blasting sand.
