Satanoperca daemon 2" -> 8"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've got one just like yours. Mine's a real brat though, ornery thing. My pH is super high (8-8.2) and kh of 14 but mine has always done super good. Nice pictures, glad you posted them!

I'd get some, but I just sold the tank that they'd have been going into. I may be moving, and will have a whole basement to devote to fishkeeping, so another 125g tank for eartheaters may be in my future ;).

:WHOA:Lucky man!! I don't know when I'll be able to do that :(. Next house must have a basement and a pond in the backyard....

Cool! I think they can be kept at higher pH. It's just the breeding part that may be a problem.

Offtopic, but how do you avoid having your beautiful eartheaters trailers chopped off??
My steiny's and the ones i picked up yesterday are chasing each other and biting the trailers and fins.
My leucosticta did the same thing to eachother when i had those :irked:

Well I didn't do anything special...the bigger one chased the smaller one a little bit during the first few days, but they have since become inseparable and always stayed a few inches from each other.

My other Geos are not nippy either....but I haven't kept steiny yet.

Lucky you! It's such a shame when they do this.
I have tried alot of different scaping etc. but i just can't get them to stop! :irked:
None of my big bruisers chase eachother around, only these "whimps".
But oh well, as i get more experienced in keeping eartheaters i hope i get better at avoiding this .

actually I think steiny are supposed to me more "aggressive" (Geo standard), so your fish are probably normal. ;)
hehe, well that's good news then :)

Great progression pics. Daemon are by far my favorite satanoperca.

On a side note, what pH does your water have out of the tap? Here in Charlotte, it is in the high sevens but quite soft, so it won't hold very long. Just wondering how large of water changes you do and do you treat the water before to match pH if you do large changes?

I don't know about that! It means there's not much you can do ;)

Thanks. My tap is just below 7 and it drops after a day or two. The wood maybe? I don't actually know why....or maybe it's something they added to the water. I do 50% WC at least once a week....I don't have a container large enough to hold water before WC so it's straight from tap.
