Satanoperca with ghastly HitH

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am extremely troubled by this thread. I have several juripari's and love them. they share a 75 with a senegal and some blood parrots. What can I do to avoid this sad situation. Japes, I understand you have a ton of knowledge in regards to geo's. So, again I am asking, what can I do to avoid this?

I hope the healing continues and everything turns out for the best...it sounds like it's on it's way to recovering !!!

It might be. We have fed them homemade food for a couple months now, but we crushed up some multivitamins and put in it, but maybe it wasn't enough. We are going to go back to NLS for a bit and see if things change. Also took out carbon that was in the sump. Going to sprinkle some vit C on the fronzen food so hopefully it will be absorbed.

Definately looking in to R/O. Hate that its such a wate of water tho :/. But I recently moved into an apartment, so im not paying for the h2O.

How hard is your water? People tend to hugely underrate the significance it plays in fish health - HITH is one issue that becomes prominent, but internal parasites resulting in bloat and other issues are also common. Orange Heads generally do -alright- in harder water, Weidner even references them breeding in 20dgH setups (although they breed like Convicts), but they should ideally be kept in typically soft conditions.

I think a little part of me dies inside whenever people talk about their water 'being fine' because they do 30% changes twice a week, but don't even have a Hardness kit.

My temperature is always 76-78 and never had hole in the head must be water or a diet problem.

nitrate 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
hardness 180ppm
alkalinity kh 50-75 ppm
pH 6.8-7.2

and that was tested with tetra test strips

Going to look into a liquid hardness test.

water temp has been getting a bit too high. They are in an acrylic tank and I have been moving so I havent had the air on much to keep the tank cooler.

I had something very similar with my Altifron and Dicrozoster- they developed a wart-like growth that got redder and redder then one day it vanished, leaving nothing but a hole. One thing i can say is that they are still alive (this was 6-7 months ago now) and the hole did heal up.

HTH and GL.
