I tried searching for some good opinions but couldnt really find anything solid. I was wondering if any of you guys have Satellite systems, and if so how do you like them? Are the color balance features useful/fun? Im thinking about getting one for my 55 gallon.

I have read great things about them on amazon. I would have already bought 1 to try out if I hadn't recently upgraded to some double brights. I will for sure be trying one after Christmas . Check out Amazon's reviews .

There's a giant thread on beamswork LED's here on the forums for examples of them. Not sure on the price difference but when I get my 120 up I'm getting beamswork.

I just recently bought the Satellite LED+ for all three of my tanks. I am still waiting to receive them, but I will pass along what sold me.

Yes, there are some cool features like the storms and cloud cover, but those are really just for play therefore you probably won't use them all that much. The key is the ability to actually control the color of light over your tank. I am sure the Beamswork are wonderful lights for the price (possibly a better "bang for the buck"), but you cannot control the color and some people end up with a washed out tank and fish. With the Satellite LED+ you can control the fixture so that doesn't happen.

The real thing that sold me was the ability to do sunrise and sunset with the LED+. It requires the "ramp-up timer," but having bright lights immediately just turn on always bugged me because I know fish don't like it - supported by the fact that my fish always scattered whenever the lights turned on or off.

I also saw some pictures from another member on here (unfortunately don't remember who it was and can't find the thread). He put a 48" fixture on his six foot 125g tank. While the LED+ did not fill the entire tank with light, it filled all but the very edges very well, leaving only the edges a bit darker. I personally like this because it allows the fish to leave the bright light which seems to help them feel more secure at times. If I find I want more light, then I will add another LED+.

With a 55 gallon you have the option of getting one light to cover your entire tank. That is probably the route I would go (if I was in your shoes) because you can control the light intensity with the remote.

To finish, I will be posting my own review thread once I get my lights and get set them up. Unfortunately my tanks are not currently set up due to just moving into my house, but I will do my best and then update once the tanks have water (can't come soon enough).

Now THIS ^ is what I was looking for. Thank you so much, I look forward to hearing more and seeing pictures!!

Well, Skurj you almost ruined my day. I called the company and they said it should work. There is an issue where you might get a strobe effect if you have the ramp-up timer turn on the lights and try to do the sunrise/sunset feature when the lights are in one of the special modes like cloud cover or something. If you just have it set to a "normal" light setting then you should be fine. It is supposedly possible that there may be some very slight flickering, but the lady said in their testing the fish did not seem to notice and there were some other employees who couldn't even tell, even after being told to look for it.

Also, a quick update:

I have received two of my three lights, and my ramp-up timers are on their way. I really like the way the light looked over my empty 125g, but obviously it will look different with water, substrate, decor, fish, etc. When I can test the sunrise/sunset feature of the timer I will update as to how it worked. If there is an issue I will probably return the LED+ and opt for the Beamswork, because the sunrise/sunset was my main selling point. I do know that others have been very pleased with the sunrise/sunset feature using the timer, so hopefully I can be one of those as well.

Staying tuned into this one, please let us know if the ramp timer works. Now if only they also offered a hanging kit for the lights....

I have the led plus and a Flex led plus on my 135 I'm building. I also run a Marineland double bright and the Aqueons in my garage setup for comparison.

The Satellite wins hands down for me but..... The Aqueons are modular so you can go from 1 to 3 bulbs per fixture. Choice is yours of course how many to use, but it is a nice feature that the Sats don't have. The flex led gives you the option to expand an existing system, but ironically the remote will not control both units. Not a deal breaker, but fumbling with 2 remotes seems a bit unnecessary. And it's the expense of another light as opposed to adding a bulb at half the cost.

Color control on the Sats is very nice. I've only had mine about 2 weeks but I'm really liking them so far.
