Satellite LED reviews?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just upgrade from Beamswork single bright freshwater LED's to the Satellite + on my 210g. I really wanted more 'pop' in coloration for my fish and this was exactly what I was looking for. I ended up running it with the preset 6500K/Rose Pink. Looks so much better than the Beamswork that just bleached out everything. I could care less about the 'effects' and the lighting flashing scared my fish to death. I really do like the fact you can change the lighting but realistically I will always just keep it at the one setting. So kind of a waste.

I have the ramp timer already installed on my 72g bowfront with Aqueon LED's and it is pretty awesome. I want to move it the the Satellite + but my understanding is that my two 36" fixture will exceed the ramp timers ability if I use a Y adapter and power off just one transformer. Any one know if it will work?

I love the adjustability of the satellite+ units, I have four over my 2000L tank. See the thread in my sig for more discussion, and post some pics when you get them!

It gets really cool with multiple units too. The color options make dusk, dawn and full daylight settings extremely flexable.

Haven't tried a Beamswork but the seem pretty cool too.

The Marinelands are my least favorite out there at the moment.

I have a 48" on a 90 gal and I like it, the special effects well I don't use them. I tried the ramp up timer but got a strobe effect or maybe I should say slight flickering when set to a "normal" light setting, I did not like it it bother my eyes.

Theres a 48" on a 55 at my work that doesnt look bad... Its hooked up to a ramp timer and works fine but i havent got a chance to play with the effects and timer since the remote is broken..

I guess the real reason i want one is because I have tannins in my water. Im too impatient to soak my driftwood for MONTHS.. Im hoping The different color options will give me an opportunity to play with the tannins and make something cool looking, ya know? What do you guys think

It may help out with tannins. Depending on the wood and the amount of loricariids you keep, you may always have them.

I've got 20 year old wood that still leaches tannins a bit.

Have one of these over my 75 and I love it. I'm curious what is the ramp up timer folks are talking about?

It basically takes the light up and down dimmer style so it eases the lights on and off. Not as much shock to the fish going from total darkness to lights on..... Or off.

Current USA even states the satellite plus LEDs are only compatible with the ramp timer for on/off not dimming, is anyone having success with the ramp timer actually dimming the lights?
