ok i just read through everything. first off, i feel the varanio ur first post came of a bit harsh. i didnt get into the monitor without knowing what to expect, of course i knew it wasnt a cuddly creature , i dont go into pets becuase of impulse buys. If knew how to handle it so it would be the best for him i wouldnt have made the post, i didnt want criticism i wanted help. I have no "NEED" to handle it. i thought as i was told nd believed that u have to tame them while young. After months of seeing it just there and having no ineraction besides keeping its habitat well and feeding it i felt something was odd that there was no other interaction, my thought was how is he going to be tame when he's older if i dont do something now. so i started trying to handle him more, who was i to know its the exact opppsite. bottom line myabe im wrong and im sorry but the first advice by you was a bit like me getting yelled at cause i did something wrong.

to everyone else:

thanks for the advice, i was told and i thought that handling it while young is what made them tame later on. last thing i wanted for at 2ft for me to need to pick it up for whatever reason and i get bit by a 2ft monitor, i cant imagine that feels nice.

so i should leave him alone ad just pet every once in a while then? at what size should he be handled more? i just want it to be tame when its older im not trying to treat it like a cuddly pet i know it isnt (veranio!) :p

p.s yes i do have a zoo;)

and whats wrong with me being a girl jason? does that make me herp stupid? :p:p:p

First of all the post wasnt meant to come off mean or jerky or whatever you want to call it. This is the internet and everything that is typed on through a keyboard is open to interpretation obviously you interpreted my post as harsh, when I felt it was in light of the subject (the monitor). Dont take things so personally after all youre just looking a screen with words. Take the advice as you will, you can choose to ignore it or you can take and apply it.

If you knew what you were doing in terms of what to expect from the animal then you would not have come on to forum and created a thread asking for advice on whether or not it was the right thing to do to pet and grab your animal. If you were as prepared as you said you were, then you would of listened to your animal through its forms of communication that it was not comfortable with you picking it up and grabing it.

Were all here to learn, some of us have more experience than others; but there is only one expert here and that is the animals. Only they know themselves better than we do. So maybe you should take a step back and think about why it is your animal is darting everytime it sees you.

BTW I appreciate you breaking down the post in responce to yours as a negative conotation of what you thought was an attack on you, and not break it down to what the core message was really about..............It speaks alot. Enjoy your captive and learn to listen because its not all about YOU.

im not going to ignore good advice just becuase. If i was going to ignore i wouldnt ask for it. maybe i did read it wrong, i apoogize. thanks for the advice that was given, i will leave him alone and gain his trust then. I was prepared for the animal, if i wasnt he wouldnt have a good setup and all the basic care he needs. I can do all the research i want and ask the person that sold him to me about it, but lik u said thy are just trying o get money and will tell u to pick it up on the first day if u wanted to, if they told people no sorry u cant handle it im sure they assume most people wouldnt buy it. On this site MANY times do people come in asking for advice becuase they bought a fish and they were told and made believe something that was totally the opposite, this is the same. we all learn through mistakes and never stop learning its what makes us good pet owners, those that dont care to ask for the advice and try to learn are the ones that arent.

i know now what to do. thank u all. I will leave him alone and just gain his trust by being his care giver. :)

and varanio i do appreciate ur advice and sorry if i frustrated you, i didnt mean to. i apologize for taking it the wrong way.
