Ok, I've been trying to take a chunk out of each paycheck and set it aside lately mostly for gloating purposes. lol. I figured I couldn't be the only one trying to save money, so I thought it might be fun to make a thread so we could all help each other out. Kind of like having an accountability partner.

So, to start, post your goal, your plan, and what you're starting amount is.

Here's mine:

Goal: 1200 by my birthday, Feb 22

Plan:
Set aside at least 30 from each check. I also put everything on my card. So when people give me cash for splitting stuff, I put it on my card and pocket the cash. That adds up fast!

Starting Amount:
Apx 500

Anyone else?

I don't have much money. But I save almost everything extra a have. The only money I spend is just on my needs: bills, food, gas etc. I occasionally spend a tiny amount on fish stuff and clothes, and other things. Just recently I put aside $500 into my stash. I really only have one goal. It is just to save money and to eventually buy a house and to always have money in case of emergencies. Also to have money to buy and support the things that make me happy such as my hobbies. I guess I think in the grand scheme of things rather than short term goals. I like to be completely and absolutely financially independent. So many people I know always depend on others for money and live check to check. What a lousy way to live.

My key to saving money is to budget, pay for all my basic needs and bills before anything, and do not spend money on wants rather than needs. I don't go and buy every new gadget simply cause others are buying it. I still don't even have an HDTV, still using an old CRT. My cellphone is a very outdated one and has a very cheap plan on it. I rarely eat out too, first of all it is expensive, and also most of it is unhealthy. I like to make my own meals from scratch: healthier and cheaper. Another thing is, I don't have any kids or GF/wife. I'd like to keep it that way for awhile and save and save and save.

During time of plenty,........ save

I speak from experience, you will thank yourself. If rainy days never come, then you'll just have a nice chunk of change sitting there to invest or whatever you want

ummm i am just about to spend £750 on a new pram lol soooooo my starting balance would be -£750 i'm off to a great start

I'm saving for the 529's and our roth/ira/401k. We're frugal in general but still live life as we only have one chance. Saving is the best self-rewarding habit.

Imagine that, a group of people with extensive fish, tattoo and gun collections dont have a lot to contribute to a thread about saving money.

S'all good. I thought it might be worth a shot...lol. And that's a good point, bbortko, I didn't even think of that! hahaha
