What's the humidity like? If that's fine, then it should be okay to keep using the same substrate; the previously mentioned one is just considered to be the ideal substrate due to its various properties.
Is that box in the first pic a little dog house for him? Paint it red and call him snoopy ha. I would of made it so he can fit his body in it and not just his head with out feeling cramped.
Very cool, Ive always wanted a monitor, but my dad would always talk me out of it. Your monitor is cool looking, but how much do you actually interact with it? You mentioned its aggresive and it bites, do you get to hold the thing, pet it, hand feed it?

oh he loves that box. It gives him security. I've noticed that he sleeps in it at night sometimes. He also uses the substrate as pillow, pushs it up with his hands and lays his head on it. He is incredible smart. I don't handfeed him and i don't touch him at all. I domplay with him in a way, that i make him to solve problems to get his food. But believe me, an Argus monitor is the meanest of allmonitor lizards and i would never hand feed him. His teeth are incredible sharp. As i said, i throwm a chicken in...he bites in chickens leg, shakes his head one time and that separates the leg from the chicken...When he gets a hold on your hand you can say good bye to your fingers. When he was new he smashed his tail against you, when you even came close. He still pumps himself up when i come closer but is calmer now. There are rare cases of tamer argus monitors but in general they are aggressive and i would not take the risk. He even want eat the cat whenever she comes into the room....just to give you an impression. I think its cool to watch him and make funny intelligence games with him but it s definitly no cuddle pet.
