I rarely even turn my top lights on.

When I got mine it would not eat for a week and I finally got him to eat a goldy, Good luck getting him on dead food tho if he already is not.

I think he no longer has the scomb.

Raphs,Tats,And Armatus are the only good sabertooths, But if you really want one bad and you can't find any of the ones I listed then get a scomb. But be prepared for sudden death, disease, and it refusing to eat. Get a 100g and put about 6 scombs in it that would be a pretty nice tank if they were all about 6-7 inches.

From what I have read about armatus, I really do not want one. They grow over two feet and I have heard many stores about armatus getting spooked and swimming into something and dying. The armatus is the coolest IMO though. I honestly think that scombs are just short lived fish. I saw a video of the ones and the Shedd aquarium and they look pretty old, even though they are still small. Plus big guys aren't caught in the wild either.

Raphs are cool, but start to get claustrophobic once the tank only has 2x turning space. I would probably need something at least 3 feet wide to keep one happy. I already have one though, so I may get him a small school in the future.

Tats seem to be the best choice. They are less claustrophobic than raphs and they are smaller than armatus. If I did ever see a juvi armatus though, there is a very good chance that I would buy it.

If I had the cha-ching right now I'd already have this huge 15" Tat at my LFS.

How much do they want for it? One of my severely overpriced LFS says that they get in "red tail vampire tetras" about once a year for 70 or so dollars. Of course they charge 35 for a scomb (20 dollars at another lfs).

Welcome to Monster Fish keeping - Most Characins get claustrophobic alot of them get 16" or larger, most of our tank sizes are large but not quite large enough - they are all a bastard to keep long term and death is a guaranteed asspect of keep them.
