Scomb - Worth the Try?

i'd rather have a payara than an ATF anyway. what would you say is min tank size for life for a tat? hopefully, i can actually find one.

Between these two fish they both have their ups and downs.
I owned/own one of each.
ATF- Is by FAR my favorite fish!!! Nice teeth, swims a lot!!! and attacks (for real!) food. Awsome fish to keep. Grow fairly slow so you could keep him in the 125 for prob 2 yrs then it might give you enough time to UP GRADE

Tat (currently own)- Dopest looking teeth (except for Armatus) and nice to see eat. Not as fierce when eating (waits for the food to go to him before he strikes) but still a good show. They dont swim that much but do enough to call it a fish. I say the min tank size for Tat is 150 (5x2x2 cause you need depth)

thanks for the input. the tat would be a better option, though, i'm sure because it doesn't need as large of a tank. also, I would need to find a larger ATF since they grow so slowly and they are expensive enough even at 3 inches. I think I'm going to end up w/ an oddball tank and a jar/cichlid tank. guess I'll need something for the top of the oddball tank, then

I'm not trying to sell you an ATF, but Vittatus are about the same price (I owned a pair of Vittatus) as Tat's. Goliath ATF are expensive. You will need a big tank in a few years, yes. I do encourage you to try a VATF, as they are awsome and powerful fish. You could always sell him (just a thought)
Tats are too. Payara's are 3rd place, while ATF is easily 1st and 2nd place (in my book).

actually, this tat i found is only $30 more and over twice the size as the cheapest VATF I've seen.

i broke down and got it. i got some serious tank shopping to do . i'm cutting myself off from buying any more fish, unless I can find a smaller marbled goby, edli, or weeksii. pics in the armatus ID thread. thanks for all the help, guys!

someone ate its eye out or something (lost one somehow). i had put some salt in the tank to try and clear up its cloudy eyes, now one is missing. it is also starting to act funny and hasn't eaten anything since a couple feeder goldies last weekend. i put a couple feeders in and it didn't eat. looks like i might lose it on the bright side, i might be getting a 210 long tank.

I say dont get one just cause your avatar is the scarriest thing Ive ever seen. well actually if some one made a mouth-boy avatar like Gr8 had with hillarys face...THAT would be the scarriest thing ever!!

mikeskillerfish has alot of payara labled as scombs but some are tats and may even be armatus but i'd be supprised go for a tat

and your sig says ornate bichir may i ask where you got it i can't find polys any where in CO except at one store and they only have senegals and once in a while an ornate but there useually to expensive

ohhh and if you interested aqua imports in boulder has an ATF its small like 3'' and i think its like $70 or so but they do have one or did last i checked

i already have one. if i could change the name of the topic, I would. I got it from Mike's and it's a tat. The missing eye is the only spot of damage I can find on the fish. I don't think it's really getting beat up, but it seems to be skittish and the dat and front seem to chase it around a little. Mike said it was an armatus, but it's a tat. The other 2 he had were smaller and he said the one i got was the most aggressive and was in its own tank, although I haven't seen any aggression from it. The others were pretty small and I couldn't tell what they were. The are not on the internet stocklist anymore.

I got the ornate in Greeley at Animal Attraction. Last time I was in there (maybe a month ago), they had 1 left. They were asking $70 each, but I got mine for a little less because it was the smallest one. here's there website (try calling them to see if they have any left): http://www.monsterreef.com/

I saw that ATF there probably a month ago. That's a decent store.
