u better get us pics of the payara he said the aggressive one out of the three.

there is a chance it is an armatus

thats how i got my 1st one, it was mixed in a batch of scombs

i posted pix in the armatus ID thread. it has a red tail w/ a red/black adipose. it's the one I got and doesn't seem aggressive at all. the others were about half as big (about 3") and were still all silver looking.

it hadn't eaten anything for a week, so i put in 5 feeders and it snapped one right up, but 5 more in a little later and it got one of them, too. i hate stubborn fish, lol, but at least it got over having it's eye eaten out or however it happened (wouldn't eat any feeders last weekend). now i have a pirate payara. i'm happy the jags i put in aren't bugging it.

tell me something i don't know, lol. she is scary even when she's not coming at you like a fly trying to eat you.

turns out the ornate bichir is the one bugging the payara. it'll like nip at it when it goes by, but I haven't actually seen it bite it or anything like that.

ive heard of ornates doing that.

poor payara:(

my old ornate did that when i first introduced my scombs to that tank.
but he stopped after realising they were big fish.

yeah, poor little guy/girl. it seems to be doing, better, though and the payara doesn't have any split fins or missing scales that I can see. hope they can co-exist in the long-term. putting them in the 210 long with more driftwood should help, too.

the problem is that the ornate is about 3-4" larger than the red-tail

mine was getting bullied by my tilapia when i fist got him.
he didnt eat for nearly a mth or only ate once in a while.
but after a mth of keeping him,hes very outgoing and active.
he'll come to me for food when hes hungry.
