Seachem Matrix?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i used it once in my filter, a fluval 104. it was really good and kept all the water params in check.

I use about a total of 40L worth of Matrix on my two tanks. All in various cannister filters. No complaints. I also use 12 liters of de-nitrate in two slow-flow cannister filters. No complaints about this media.

I can't vouch (yet) as to how effectively either media addresses nitrates as I haven't been running it long enough and had other issues that were leading to high nitrates (over-stocking and poor maintenance of my substrate). As I address these two issues, I should be in a better position to determine how effectively (if at all) matrix and de-nitrate combat nitrates.

With regards your use of Kaldness K1 I was always led to believe that it works best when the media is in constant motion, as in some of the large pond filters, and won't work well otherwise.

I buy the Matrix by the bucket and run it in all my filters, HOB and canasters.
It's fantastic.

I bought a 4 liter bucket for cheap and I am very happy with it. the Nitrate removing bacteria is in the core of the "pebbles". I am using it in my canister filters, my HOB filters and even in my internal filters... I stuff it into any filter, or replace the existing media with matrix.

Yes. 80 - 90 bucks for 20L is a good deal. I got my matrix from BigAls. Typically, it was just under 30 buck for 4L, so, the deal you make reference to is even better than what I got. Regardless, alot of people swear by Matrix. I can't weigh in personally, yet, because I haven't been running it long enough yet, but as of now, I have totally replaced "all" of my media with Matrix and a smattering of de-nitrate. I don't have any regrets as of yet.
