Do you think it would be okay for me to dose prime according to the amount of water I remove from the tank and add prime to the tank after water is filled? I don't want to use so much of it cuz its costly

I put a capfull or so in before or as i am filling the tank:) ........if you wait till the tank is full the fish might experience chlorine /chloramine shock!!!:)

Yes, that is fine. To save even more money, buy Pond Prime instead. The cost is the same but twice as concentrated.

wurm...............do they make pond prime too:confused: ........Never seen it...........I now use pond melafix and save tons of $$$ but pond prime???

Depending on the fish you have, I personally would not dose only the volume of water being put in, unless you are pre-treating the water prior to it going into the tank. When adding water directly to the tank, I always dose for the full volume of the tank, and turn off the filters. If you don't you will risk, chlorine/chloramine shock, as well as a possible mini cycle. Prime is already very cheap. If you don't have enough for that, either you have a 500+ gallon tank, or you are in the wrong hobby.

I double dose the entire tank. Prime isn't that expensive for me, but to some people it is.
