If you search around on Seachem's website, tyou can confirm this yourself.. Prime 'binds' ammonia, nitrite & nitrate in "non toxic' forms for 24~48 hours...
Although they say it, I do not believe the bound ammonia/nitrite/nitrate is any more easily consumed by the bio filtration, I think it is simply not harmful to the fish until it is consumed...
If it is true that Amquel+ gets rid of ammonia, nitrite and/or nitrate, then it is removing substances that are needed as food to sustain a healthy bio filtration. I have not done research on Amquel the way I have Prime, but I have my doubts that it "removes" ammonia/nitrite/nitrate, and suspect is only binds them for a limited amount of time, just like Prime. If I am wrong please feel free to correct me and please supply links to evidence to support the correction.
I started using Prime because it was cheaper... I've kept using Prime for many years because it continues to impress me above and beyond the competition...
