searching for a surface fish

Pink tail chalceus is a true top water fish as I have never seen mine dive below mid level. It’s not a schooling fish but often recommended to keep either one or a group of 6 to reduce conspecific aggression. I keep one in my 75 and it has zero aggression to other fish. Your 2 meter tank isn’t big enough for 6 as full grown pt can reach 10 inch. My friend kept 4 in a 180 gal tank and eventually reduced to one as they constantly locked jaw and fought one another.

Agreed.

I picked up a pink tail once on a whim at a lfs as a dither for my ATF. It was a great, plucky little fish who held his own at the top of the water column in a tigerfish tank. I enjoyed him and will likely have another someday.

There may still be some pics floating around in the forum somewhere, but the hard drive I had all my pics on died years ago.

Check out pile characins. A hujeta "gar" would be perfect for you.
I wanted to add 3 hejutas. The problem was that i could only find small ones. So i bought 3 thinking iT was okay to put them i a to small tank to let them grow. While after 1 year they had only grown 2 or 3 cm. In the end they died bec of a disease....

They are really cool fish but i dont wane buy them when they are 3 cm. IT Will only give me trouble and problems for the fish.

The red tail chalcheus would be cool indeed. I was also thinking that Maybe a toxates would be cool.

Both hejutas and chalceus are characin. Hejutas has the cool predator look but plain in color. Chalceus has the cool color, but less predatory in look.

I have never had hejutas but the common name refer to 3 different species that can reach from 12 to 28 inch. So hejutas is not for an average aquarium. , Keeping a small number in a small tank of any characins is a disaster as they will terminate one another.

Chalceus doesn't get as big, 10 inch maximum, and LFSs carry decent 2 to 3 inch size, never smaller. Not sure about jejutas, Chalceus is an exclusive surface dweller and will never venture to the bottom to feed.

I also am a fan of the chalceus
I am thinking about adding a group of mixed pink and yellows for this one to rule over

ha, hejutas dont get so big they stay around the 30cm. the biggest i ever saw was around 15cm. They dont really have cool colours but the way they attack their food makes up for it. They look so cool man hovering in the surface.

I think i will try to find some chalcheus. Keeping 2 or 3 is not possible right?

What kind of catfish and knife do you have in there that tank maybe getting over crowded before you know it

2 bullheads, and an aver
The bullheads are full grown and around 20cm. The aver is now 17cm and seems to be doing great. In the beginning I was afraid because avers can be really nasty towards other fish but mine luckily isn't.
