Thats messed up bro. Oscars do have delicate skin/scales compaired to most species so they can get injured easy. I had an oscar tear almost all the scales off one side this is how i treated..Add aquarium salt, add half dose melafix. Keep water clean. Hope he heals up bro.

^^^ This is the best treatment if your able to do it. Topicals give the best chance of stopping infection. Not to mention you dont have to treat the tank.

Do you have over the back filters? If you do then I'm willing to bet that it was spooked and crashed into the bottom of the filter which can act like a knife and do.damage like that. I experienced something similar with a dovii In the past.

this is what i think happened also. there are 2 emperor 400 HOB filters with an AquaTop cf500uv canister filter. i think it hit one of the HOB filters.

Which part of a filter in the tank is sharp enough to do that? I've never noticed it. I'd think the rocks would be the culprits.
