WELL IT DEPENDS ON YOUR TANK SIZE LOL OMG MAYBE IF YOU HAVE A BIG ENOUGH TANK and stop using caps lock. However, You probably don't have a 6 foot tank if you are new to this, so I suggest returning the GT's and getting one JD, or keeping one JD. If you have a 55 gallon, one JD is fine, but no GT.

No get rid of them now and how can you get GS and JD's confused with one another lol. If you are new to cichlids which you seem to be start with some smaller species that are hardy and easy to take care of such as the most common Convict or some of the Thorichthys species. JD's and GS are easy to take care of if you have the space and time to change lots of water. For the 55 just go with one GS or one JD and thats IT. Don't overstock it will just be major headaches in the end if you aren't willing to commit to a week full of Water changes. Just take it easy and find out what fish you really want to keep. GS have a bunch more attitude and can be a handful compared to a JD. GS will grow to about 12" upon full maturity sometimes more but JD's will max 10" which is a better choice for a 55. Trade all the GS for a JD and go from there.

It seems like many other people have had the opposite opinions: that JD's are feistier than GS's. Speaking of which, will a GT and JD be okay in a 55 for year or so?

they are GS.

you can do a pair of JD or a male JD and male GT in a 55.

Yeah that would probably work, at least for a few years.

My young GT and my young JD leave each other alone. They are still relatively small though but nevertheless the green terror is a roving hitman and the jack dempsey is a passive defender.
