I want to find a animal to breed. I LOVE to selective breed. Can come up with some awesome things. But i cant think of what to breed. I mean i love all animals but i just want some ideas. Something that can have cool patterns and is a good selective breeder. Remember i am in FL and theres lots of wildlife. Just give me some ideas.

Well, what is your size and cost constraint? Otherwise I could make a list of a thousand things for you to breed.

To really jump into a breeding project you are going to want to choose a species with fast generational time. So stay away from turtles. If you want lizards I would suggest a gecko species. But I think my first recommendation would be Garter Snakes, they are extremely variable and I think the development of their "designer" varieties is just getting started. Plus, they do not take a lot of supplemental heating and will eat a wide variety of prey.

Honestly it is all up in the air right now. I am starting the saving and i want to start planning. I am having a few ponds going under construction and i was thinking maybe some mud turtles or maybe even spotted turtles. But i didnt think about gartner snakes, they would work as a good option. Just give me stuff, something undiscovered. Something NEAT. All i know it whn i get settled i want some albadra tortoise. Not for breeding but for fun. SICK torts.

you could do mata mata's. The black and red variety would be neat to work with.

No such thing.......You either have the Peruvian/Basin form, or the Orinoco form available to the hobby.........There are another 5 or 6 different forms waiting to be described and reviewed.......

However, there is no "selective breeding" with Matas.......There really isn't any breeding with Matas unless you have a deep pond......Only one person is doing it with any kind of consistancy.....

If you want to do Turtles, do the million and one RES morphs available......You can go from egg to egg in the time it takes to acclimate a Mata or any type of non-native Turtle........Pink Bellies and a few others could be done the same way, but producing Turtles is not an easy task if you don't have the resources to do so......

Completly true.

Try to create our own lineage of melanistic leopard geckos, first step: get a good amount of the darkest normals you can find.
