serious ammonia problem.

And, u haven't really had any luck with rays, if I remember, every1 told u to take that gator gar out, and u wouldn't listen and it bit the crap out of ur last ray...

Maybe you need to do more research on fish keeping in general, and ray keeping.....

Not to be mean, but alot of ur past threads are something being wrong with a fish....

Hope u can figure this out.

If I were u I would add another big canister, or a sump

Since you've already been changing water, a 90% water change should be fine. I've done water changes on W/C rays down to where their eyes are only just below the surface, seriously, large water changes are your friend not an enemy to be avoided.

i agree 100%
just make sure the water you put back in the tank is the same temp and ph as what you took out or you could kill your rays fast.

gl.

I made sure to rinse the filters with tank water and I did not even really rinse the media just the hoses and small openings since there was buildup of waste slowing the flow rate of the canisters. I'm about to do a large water change and keep up with what I'm doing and I'm gonna try and find a home for these fish this week regardless....thanks for all the feedback.

In a last ditch effort try the dr. Tim's one and only. In cases of ammonia and nitrite toxicity this stuff is great. However, if the underlying cause still exists then itll be like pissing into the ocean so make sure you identify and address that first and foremost.

just did a 50% water change and as soon as I plugged back in my filters they started flipping out arowana jumped and died and now the ray is sitting at the surface of the water. anybody that lives close to me can come take her and try and save her not sure how much longer she's gonna hang on.

UPDATE: she's back down at the bottom of the tank now breathing is slowing back down but still stressed

wtf? was there no lids on when you plugged the filters back in? you never do anything sudden like that with an aro. they spook too easy. most canisters have a valve that you can turn off and then slowly release open so it's not such a shock to the fish.

this story is just getting worse. poor fish.

I'm doing the same procedure I've always done. I turn on one canister then a couple minutes later the other it had nothing to do with shock at all they were like spazzing out from something water related. They were fine during the WC the ray started pushing it's spirals above the water as if it did not have oxygen. She's now at the bottom breathing closer to normal now.

You know they make certain filter inserts that absorb ammonia, obviously this is not a short term solution but maybe something to consider down the road. Goodluck
