ray is doing fine now just need to find a buyer quick and break this tank down and take a break from this hobby I do not have the time or the money for it anymore.
Canister filters need alotta air to have a healthy bb colony. From my exp with canister filters. If u properly cycled. And not over feeding that's the only way i can think of that u have high ammonia the bb is not getting the air for the colony to flourish.
And to add air to the canister, you need more air in the tank, only way.. As the oxygen level in the tank,is the oxygen level in the canister. But if there is enough exoygen for the ray, i would think there was enough for the BB aswell.
You need something to break the surface of water in your tank like a hob or just a simple air stone and pump unless you have overflows or your power head is pointing at the surface. I could be wrong but did you not have a fx5 full of sludge a while back. This was probily caused from overfeeding. Keep in mind we don`t lose to many fish due to starvation but overfeeding can give us bad water quality. If you have a bad reading 50 percent water change should cut that number in half.
