No! Definately not a spilopleura. No red on it at all. Jaw is different. Tail colour is different. Perhaps my pictures are not coming across too well. Mine has the yellow throat and yellow/black/yellow tail. Very prominent teeth, I have not seen on any piranha before, there like a tiger fish.

spilo Doesn't have any red. that's Gold Spilo/Mac. for sure. judge by the pictures.

serrasalmus maculatus, gold spilo/mac is the most widely used common name

agreed!:headbang2

i have one too, and i love mine. they are great fish... tons of personality in a smaller size.

i used to group 9 of them in my 300gallon. from 2" to 6-7".

yeah, i'm tossing the idea around of doing a spilo cohab, but i'm gonna wait a bit. i just got done adding those caribe to my shoal of reds so that's enough stress for a couple weeks.

any Serrasalmus piranha species should kept solo unless you have enough experience to keep them together.

Geryi and gold spilo are known to keep in a group, but recommend for who know what they are doing.

So they will mix then? What about other fish, cichlids for instance?

No serrasalmus should EVER be mixed with cichlids as their aggression will cause the demise of any cichlid. Only 1 or 2 small Pygo. naterri can ever be tried with cichlids & even then their has to be several cichlids & never more then 2 natteri. Once the natteri get 6" then they should be moved too.

sounds good man, i'll be lookin out for them. it's being sold for roughly $70 american, right? that'd be a great price for a gibbus, not so much for a rhom tho.

Wow why are they so cheap over there. Gibbus here run about $150.00
