Serrasalmus rhombeus id

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Like I wrote it. A complex of closely related species.
In this case we are dealing with a group of species containing the names S. rhombeus, S. gibbus and S. sanchezi covering a wide array of morphological variations that science haven't quite come to terms with.

Besides that we also have the compressus- and spilopleura-complex.
so you see. The whole genera is up for major revision any day now.

Just enjoy your fish, and let the grow to show you what they are themselves.

Clean water (zero nitrates) aka " alot of waterchanges".
Preferably soft water, good food, and, maybe, you should consider a treatment against internal parasites like tape-worm and such. Good medics for such are Droncit.vet, PraziPro, and Tremazol and the like, the active stuff in these products is Praziquantel, apparently completely harmless to serrasalmids when dozed correctly, but seriuosly bad news for must gut-parasites.

Wild caught serrasalmids are often internal-affected by parasites, some whole-sellers treat their live-stock on arrival, to get better chances on receiving better payment for each specimen.

If your fish doesn't seem to grow steadily in accordance to the amount of food they consume, a de-worming may be the only way needed to get a better result.

Secondly, but no less important, never feed live-, or freshly killed -fish. And always stay away from feeding goldfish, and to be sure cyprinids in generel, as they often carry the same parasites, and furthermore, contains growth-inhibiting enzymes (thiamine-deficiency).

If you for some reason should feel need of feeding, eg. fillet of freshly killed fish, then choose saltwater species, as the parasites they may hold, will not tolerate fresh-water.
