Serrasalmus sanchezi growth rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just depends on what's laying around. My 10 is so easy to keep params perfect and control feeding. A 1" fish in a 90 is a waste of power, money and space imo. But like I said whatever is laying around always works. Hes going in my 40 in a few weeks!

Twice the growth rate isnt a waste imo.

Where is this 1$/gallon sale??

If the bio load is reached or exceeded it won't harm the growth. Not sure where u got that from. A 1/2" rhom will grow out the same too 2" in a 10 or 90 gal as long as params and diet are ideal and consistent, which, is easier and more realistic to achieve with less water. Mine is growing pretty fast on a NLS/01 diet. Now if u out that same fish in a Dixie cup then yeah his growth will slow but as babies a 90 is not necessary for fast growth. It's more about crisp clean water, a great varied diet and no aggression. I mean if u can prove its twice the growth rate then cool, but that's highly doubtful.

I got both my 40b @ petco but a lot of lfs this time of year have the sale! Hurry while you can!

Theres more to water quality than nitrogen levels F1. There are studies on horomones released by piranha to inhibit growth. Having something like an auto water changer, doing constant water changes, and sheer water volume dilutes and helps prevent build up of these horomones.

But what do i know. I didnt grow these fish side by side in my own home myself. Wait... I did. Tank size did make a difference in the growth rates of my same collection point, same shipment, same diet, same water change schedule serras.

Really think about what you just typed there. The water will stay more consistent in a smaller tank. Thats straight up and down wrong. The best solution for polLution is dillusion.

A half inch fish in a 10 gallon is not going to inhibit its own growth or come even close to releasing enough hormones....

And your "study" needs much more controls then 2 fish, especially juvies.

BTW I change my water every other day and it stays perfect, its growth is awesome. Like I said before its preference or whatever u have available, I'm not gonna waste 9x the money u did growing out a fish (10gal vs 90gal)..... Bigger tank equals more food, more leftovers, more water to change, more sub to clean etc..... Why?

Dilution is based on overall water volume and overall water changed and added, thus to cut n03 in half u change apprx half the total volume of water. 5 gallons vs 45.....?

What I said makes total sense...

I can only vouch for my own experience but everytime I've taken a fish from a 10 gallon that didn't seem to be growing, I noticed significant measurable growth rate within weeks of upgrading to a larger tank.

I see the pros and cons of both mike and f1 points but if it truly impacts how fast they reach the point that thier growth rate naturally slows down then it seems worth the extra work to go as big as possible as soon as possible

No man. PPM doesnt exactly work that way. Youre thinking the waste:water volume is the same between tanks. A 2" fish is going to make a solid bioload and higher concentrations of other stuff in 10 gallons of water. If the 90 and 10 both have 50ppm nitrate, yes it will take 45 gallons in the 90 and 5 in the 10 gallon to bring it down to 25ppm. But how much waste is being produced? Doing 5 gallon water changes every day is more than enough to keep that 90 gallon pristine. Im talking drinking water pristine. Arowana and ray pristine. This is not to mention the unbelievable activity and development of the fish's personality.
