setting up a 250g pacu tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sounds like it may be a good idea, but ill need something a bit larger than 700g for 4 pacu. add a zero to that, and we're talking :)

so in my fx5, im removing the carbon, and keeping the filterpads, and prefilter, then loading the other 2 chambers with bio-max

Ditch the filter pads they plug too easily unless you want to take the FX 5 apart weekly... fill all three chambers with glass and ceramic noodles or POND Matrix it's a lot larger than regaular matrix ....

wont no filter pads allow large waste to clog up the bio-media then??

Cattle troughs are good...I got one for actually very cheap. It is used and I did get it from a local farmer. He was kind enough to deliver it for me :) I had a Pacu and was going to set this up in my garage when that time came as my largest tank is only 150G....sadly the fish decided to jump ship before that happened. But these things are designed to permantly hold water and cant be damaged by fish. Well worth the price than having several hundred gallons(thousand) escaping and loosing livestock. :) If you live in a rural area...perhaps you to could find a farmer getting rid of livestock, and their accessories. Mine is around 450G in capacity 96*36*30, and i paid 100bucks for it. It was really dirty and took quite a bit of effort to clean...but well worth it.

maybe i wored it wrong....not the filter pads themselves, i was referring to keeping the foam blocks in the sides. thats a must, no??

this whole thing is new to me not keeping carbon, some bio and then the different filter pads. its worked for years for me that way, but time to teach an old dog new tricks :popcorn:

let me ask something.
why do they rip the pools? are they trying to escape? are they bored? if so; can you fix that problem so they would'nt rip the pool? like give him toys, put netting over the pond liner, etc.

I had a friend who bought a 29 gallon and 5 Pacus under the advisement of an employee at a LFS…

I showed him a few pics and he quickly wanted to rehome the fish… We couldn’t find a pet shop to take them, including the dilhole that sold him the fish. So I kept them…As much of a pain as they were they were cute as anything…

I got a 300 Gal Rubbermaid for them and they very quickly grew to 22~25” and were too large for this Tub. In the end there was simply no way I could properly keep them… so we ate them… they weren’t that good…

Here is the 300 gal now with 3 large Oscars and a handful of medium sized Cichlids…
