Setting up a 75 gallon ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You would want a good saltwater test kit and track the cycle as it goes from ammonia to nitrites to nitrates. Once the LR goes it, give it an ammonia source. A raw market shrimp in a panty hose should do it (panty hose is for easy removal).

Kind of hard to say exactly how long, too many variables to take into account. If I had to throw down a ballpark, I would say ~4 weeks?

If youre looking at a blenny, check out a Starry Blenny (Salarias ramosus). It has more personality than just about any fish i have ever seen. It quickly becomes everyones favorite fish in my tank.

Make sure you post pics when you get everything going even if it takes a while. Im in the process of getting a 72 going and im doing the same thing so i can see it as it progresses.

Oh I entend to post every step of the way. I'll need the help i'm sure.

I bought an API test kit today as a matter of fact, good call:) It has ph, Ammonia, Nitrates(NO3), nitrites/ Any others I should pick up?

By the way the time line ? was more for individual fish stocking. I've read , almost everywhere, that the angle should be one of the last inhabitants added to the tank. Most places say it's because of algea stands that are produced. With that being said flame angles are from deeper water where algea is not as abondent, correct, and they eat meatier fare. So why would I have to wait 6 months, as most articles have say, before adding the flame angel. Not that I mind, I know flame angles will eat algea, but not as a main food source.

What is a good temp for this tank? I was thinking 78*F, sound good?

Also is black or blue the best color for a background? I know everyone will have a different color and reasons to support it, I just want to know what you guys think. Right now the tank is 2 tone, Black back and left side and carolins blue right side.

I hope to have the tank emptied out this weekend, if i can sell of my africans, and should post pics sometime next week or so.

Thanks,
David

Cant help you here, now I am just lost. If you are worried about algae availability for the flame angel, you can always feen sheets of nori on a veggie clip.

Thats in the acceptable range.

Really all going to come from preference. I have a pic of my background that I will post when I get home.

Good luck on selling.

Thanks again Heathd, your a big help here.

Anyone else heard of adding flame angles atleast 6 months after set up? If any of you have flame angels, when did you add them and how are they doing. Time in tank would be a great help as some might say "Oh, mine did great it lasted for like 6 months and I added it 2 days after cycle." I have seen people judge successs on along these lines before. A fish that lived 2 years after ading it would be closer to success I think.

Anyway, i'm rambling now so, thanks again and feel free to post pics if you want to share, especialy flame angles, fowler tanks, and any of the other fish from the original list that you may have.
David

haha, yea, my black background was covered in dead coraline algae, so yours is a much better example.

Brad your right about the black and blue Bg, you can't go wrong. I just want to see the fish have their best colors. I wish you had fish in your tank, that i could see atleast, so i could have a better idea on how they looked in there. But being that heathd didn't have fish, that i could see, in his either it worked out for a good comparison. Thanks for the photo Bradt85.
