scrap the filter pads, fill it with ceramic media. nothing else. why is it costing you money to run the filter? Aside from electric of course.

Im doing it wrong, I don't know. I kinda had to figure everything out the hard way on this hobby. So what you're telling me is that, I shouldn't buy the media I stated on top? and leave my filter be as it is. I think the problem is , am looking to get crystal clear water . A list of what I should be using on my filter would be much appreciated. Don't know what else to do at this point.

When you buy a premium product, expect to pay a premium for everything that goes into that product (filters, replacement parts, etc). Kinda like buying a Mercedes or BMW.....a basic oil change service will cost at least $100

ok hold on...do you OWN the filter and media currently? Or are you looking to buy it?? I'm confused. I would use biomax or matrix for the whole thing. the eheim sintered glass is the best but you will spend a small fortune filling a can with it. You can get Purigen for it if you want but remember you'll have to recharge it once it turns brownish, it does work for crystal clear water.

I really would like a full setup for an eheim 2262 that doesn't cost me this much. It's getting ridiculous, also how long before I have to open the canister to replace/clean media. Thank you

I own the filter and what I currently have in it is :

Bottom to top :

Ceramic Rings
Bio balls with foam inside them
Pond filter pad ( White/Blue )
Chemi pure elite
Pond filter pad ( White / Blue)
Purigen
Filter Floss

I think I need more bio, and I need to leave the darn filter alone . I also do 25% a week water change. I use Prime & API Stress coat.

I use 4 liters of ehfimech on the bottom, got 5 liters on amazon for 37 bucks,I have poret foam on top of that in 20 and 30 ppi, spent 40 or so on that and then 8 liters of seachem matrix,4 liter buckets are less than 30 each on kensfish.com.Also have filter floss if I feel the need to run it,haven't yet.

HarleyK on here went a whole year without cleaning, your mileage may vary depending on stock.I would say 6 months but it all depends. You should never have to replace biomedia unless it's literally falling apart.
