I am looking at adding a bit of LR to the aquarium but can not afford 200+lbs of LR at $3.99/lb. What is a good BR (base rock) to use for this set up?

Also, I plan to keep:

(1) Emeperator Angel
(1) Tesselata, Zebra, White Mouth, Canary,or Dragon Moray
(1) Argus Grouper
(1) polleni or miniatus grouper
(1) bamboo or wobbygong shark

or

(1) Emeperator Angel
(1) Tesselata, Zebra, White Mouth, Canary,or Dragon Moray
(1) Argus Grouper
(1) Polleni or Miniatus grouper
(1) Titan or Clown triggerfish
(1) Mappa Puffer

What do you think of my set up and choices for tankmates.

(BTW, in case anyone was wondering the wobbygong/titan/bamboo is not going to be in that tank permanently, simply a grow out ;) )

The tank dimensions are 8'x2'x2'

I think it all sounds sweet. I have no advice but I want to see pics ASAP.

Forget the tess. tanks to small.

(1) Argus Grouper

Only pick one grouper. If young you might get lucky but groupers get territorial with other groupers. Although if you get 2 that are totally different coloured ive heard it helps alot.

(1) bamboo or wobbygong shark
Forget the wobbie. I know you said its just a grow out but i doubt you have the pond space for a 8' shark.

Watch out for triggers and the puffer as they like to pick at eels tails.
(1) Mappa Puffer

Most of it should work out other then the bits i added.

A 240 is too small for a Brown Banded Bamboo, or any Bamboo. Same goes for the Wobbeygong. Only shark you will be able to house in a 240 for life will be a Coral Cat or Marbled Cat shark. Otherwise looks like it will be a nice setup.

Allright, so you're saying that an 8" fish wich sits in one place for the majority of the day will not do well in a 240g Aquarium (8'x2'x2')? Do you see were that makes completely no sense? If I was planning on keeping the 8" shark until it reached 2'+ in that aquarium, then yes, I will agree that the aquarium is inapropriate. However, seeing as how I AM NOT planning on keeping the elasmobranch in that aquarium when it is a 2'+ specimen, that statement appears to be irrational and somewhat foolish.

I hope that we can all see that and that we may move on from that logic.

Thank You

I will definately adhere to all of the precautions when introducing specimens to the aquarium.

These are the guidlines I know of or have heard of:

1) Add aggressive fish last
2) Rearange Rock Work
3) Water change (Hormones)
4) Add dither fish (Chromis-damsel)

Are their any other known methods for the successful introduction of semi-aggressive species into an aquarium?

Seeing as you probable have no experience with elasmobranches, I am not sure why you are trying to be smart. Buying a fish which you do not plan on keeping for life is rather foolish and immature. If you do not believe anything I am saying, check out my website www.sharkraycentral.com and see for your self. I did not say it couldn't live in your 240, I said it wouldnt for life. If you have other arrangments for a larger tank, or a friend willing to take the shark. Go for it, just wanted to let you know what your getting into. Keeping sharks is a long term commitment, dont do it unless your dedicated.

you can introduce them ate the same time and not have to rearrange the rocks. but if you don't make sure to try and make the setup look completly different. like if the fish hangs out near a outcrop that has a tower in front of it, don'tput the tower near the outcrop, or you fish willkeep the same territory.
i hope that makes sense.

i don't know how experienced you are w/SW but don't just dive in and start with sharks. they are fairly hard to keep and demand excellant water conditions.
but judging on your choice of grouper and eel and angel, you either very experienced, or very foolish.
