Seeing as you probable have no experience with elasmobranches, I am not sure why you are trying to be smart. Buying a fish which you do not plan on keeping for life is rather foolish and immature. If you do not believe anything I am saying, check out my website www.sharkraycentral.com and see for your self. I did not say it couldn't live in your 240, I said it wouldnt for life. If you have other arrangments for a larger tank, or a friend willing to take the shark. Go for it, just wanted to let you know what your getting into. Keeping sharks is a long term commitment, dont do it unless your dedicated.

All right then, a simple miscommunication between us. I stated in my post that the aquarium was simply a grow out for the wobbygong or bamboo shark. :)

i dont get why theres so much gear in this tank... but its your tank...

base rock can be any type of rock but you have to let the bacteria grow onto the nuetral rock so itll take a while before your tank is ready.

IME groupers are monster pigs and eels are slow eaters.. you might have trouble feeding your fishes

and the shark is to docile to hang out with your fishes and he would be out competed for food

everything else seems cool

i don't know how experienced you are w/SW but don't just dive in and start with sharks. they are fairly hard to keep and demand excellant water conditions.
but judging on your choice of grouper and eel and angel, you either very experienced, or very foolish.

I know that their always comes a risk with agressive tankmatess but I am trying to appease several parties with this decision.

Btw, do you think my filtration is inadequate for the needs of a shark? I have a UV sterilizer, Ozone generator, electronic testing instruments, RO/DI, and so on. On top of all that I am going to get a Protein Skimmer rated for 3000 gallons, 12.5 times greater than what is recommended.

If this is inadequate, then may you please describe or better yet, show me a system which IS adequate.

if you're going all out why not get an auto-topoff syatem and never maintain the tank at all? lol!
it actually seems a little overkill, but i've never kept sharks before, all i know is they are hella hard to keep.

My plan is to make this aquarium as minimal maintainence as possible.

Stick feeding is how I planned to feed the eel and shark. Of course this will happen only when the groupers are full. :D

I do have an auto top off system. The model I have is made by JBJ and is called Auto Top Off or ATO.

:D

why not get a massive lion instead? a little passe granted but too slow to be a real hog! groupers are fast as HELL!!!!!

Well, no to lions because of the negative shark-lion relationship. Plus, I prefer the look and attitude of a Miniatus or Argus grouper to that of a lion. Groupers are BAMF that don't take nothing from no one.

well the clown trigger will get you that for sure.
and about BAMFitude, MANTIS SHRIMP!

The Mantis Shrimp is just about the one creature that actually scares me. They poke holes in things that aren't supposed to have holes in like it ain't nobodies business. SCARY :mr-t:
