Setting up my 240g FOWLR

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Personally between the two species lists - I would tend to recommend the second one(without the shark).

For most small benthic shark pups (i.e. Bamboo pups)- a large tank like a 240 gallon is too large - and they have trouble fining food while small. But the tank is also too small(too narrow) to house the shark as an adult.

Also your choices of tankmates for the shark is really bad. No Angels, Triggers, Puffers, or agressive Eels (like Tessies).

Would also look into plumbing your tank into a refugium to take car of nitrates as you will need perfect water quality for that shark.

Nice equipment. Is the mag for your return?

Well, the mag was originally for my UV but will probably join the fbf on the return.

The main pump is going to be a sequence 5000 which is going to be used in conjunction with the Protein Skimmer rated for 3000g. I have a 60g sump which I will either fill with LR or make into a refugium, however, seeing as how the flow rate is extreme, I will probably go with LR seeing as how mud might never settle in the sump or calupera grow.

I know, :D , but I guess its better than nothing. I wanted to get a requeim(BTR) and set up a pond but I personally think that a nice dining room aquarium would be more asthetically pleasing. :D

The choice is sort of a compromise between several parties. I have decided to ditch the tesselata and go with a less agressive moray (prehaps, Zebra). How have Crosshatch triggers faired with sharks?

Btw, the shark and eel are to be stick fed and logged in order to maintain proper feeding regimen.

Thanks for all of the helpful suggestions. :)

As I stated before, Angels, Triggers, Puffers, and Butterflies are all non-compatibale with sharks in almost all aquarium situations. They are all great fish, but if you want a Shark those are all out of the questions. Tangs, Groupers, and Eels are great substitution tankmates.

My answer to that-

Good Bye Shark. :(

Thanks for the help. :)

I see you want to establish a FOWLR aquarium, but I have noticedany live rock. If you didn't get it, could you tell me where and how much you paid?

Does anyone know where I can get some live and/or base rock for my 210g salt water aquarium reasonable (cheap) prices? In the New York area or willing to ship the rock to the New York area. I have found some live rock for between $6-$10 at local fish stores, but I need about 225 pounds and at those rates it's not going to happen.

All right,

well I am finally going to be able to set up my aquarium.

Question #1

I had Tahitian Moon Sand in the aquarium which I have taken most of out. Does it matter if there is still a little bit left or should I make sure the tank is totally clean.

Question #2

My RO/DI system is leaking from the faucet and is producing WAY more waste water than the product water. Is this okay? Also, the resin chambers leak even though I have tightened them. Anything to do to stop this?

Question #3

Should I wait for the tank to fill up with water and then add salt to it or should I mix the salt and then add it?

Question #4

Should I set up all of my equipment (FBF, UV, sump,etc...) now?
