Setting Up My 8' Tank - Pics

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very, very clean, I like it! Some of the best looking plumbing I have seen on here. I really like the stand and canopy as well.

Only change I would have made would have been to use some ball valve unions instead of regular unions. It's nice when you need to be able to shut the water off fast, they are also nice if you need to quieten down the drains a little. Probably not necessary but I sort of go overkill on everything which ends up costing me much more than necessary. :(

Let me spend some more of your money :D If your overflows are making noise...since your outflow of water from them is UNDER water in the sump with the filter socks...you NEED these silencers. My fan in the canopy makes more noise then the over flows...the air stones in the water make more noise...I mean they are DEAD silent! I used to do the ball valve trick to quiet them down but this is way better and safer. Only catch is the outflow from them needs to be under water.

Actually my ball valves are completely opened up and still quiet. That's not the case on all tanks now leave my Visa card alone!!!!

lol no way...and I want my points that I am earning!!

Do you have pics of how you did your overflow in your thread...I missed it if you did.

I put tubes down in my intake pipe to quite it down. It releases air so that I don't hear any gurggling. It has been working great so far. The guy that did most of the plumbing usually does commercial stores around the country, so his skill level seemed pretty descent. I would have done most of it myself, but since he lived near by it was probably well worth the investment. He charged me $20 an hour.

I just put pool sand in the tank. Now I need to find some nice rocks for it. I was going to put CAs in there but half of them were knocked off by my Flowerhorn. I had to combine 2 125s into one in order to get the 240. I thought the fish would be ok together for a few days, but the FH already knocked off 3 of the 6 CAs, so I'm going with Mpimbwe or Moba Frontosas. I just put the sand in and it's not too clowdy. The pool sand is definately much cleaner than lowes play sand. It was worth spending the extra $2 for the pool stand. Here is an updated pic.

Thanks. This is my only tank with the center overflow. Any tanks that I purchase in the future will definately have the center overflow. It is much easier to manage and it looks clean.

wow thats a nice setup.
