Setting up my new 120 Gallon Pic heavy......

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sorry to hear about your Gar, bummer.

you sure seem to enjoy plumbing :) if you wanted to suck from closer to the bottom, could you put a street 90 in the bulkhead and add a short bit of pipe?

the stand looks good!!!

I wanted to keep the plumbing hidden. I had 5 holes in the back so I went with what I had. Craigs list bummer. Someday I will order a brand new aquarium and get what I want.......

i really like your overflow cover!! where did you find that? are those backgrounds porus, i'm wondering if they fill up with BB?
do you plan on putting a small extension on your pipe going into the filtersock to help with noise?

looking good :)

Overflow cover was from Imitation Reef and Stone Overflow Covers

Backgrounds: Non porous, sort of a dense styrofoam product you can cut with a utility knife. It's colored all the way through so chipping is not noticeable.

Small extension for my filter sock was genius, thanks!

any chance you can provide stand plan? i'd like to make a simple 1 with skin like yours.

It was very simple really. Built for strength not for looks.

I screwed together two rectangles for the top and bottom. Then 4 legs between the rectangles at the corners so the legs are attached on top of the bottom rectangle and under the top rectangle. This eliminates "sheer" weight from transferring to the hardware (screws). I used this jig Kreg Jig® Mini to screw the legs to the rectangle top and bottom. All the weight is on the wood, this is very important. A fifth leg was installed between the doors but not needed for weight just something for the doors to rest against. I cut 3/4" scrap plywood I had laying around to fit inside the areas between the 2X4 legs. This should be a tight fit, I used a hammer to fit it in it was so tight. This "squares" up the stand and, just as important, strengthens/prevents the left to right rocking of the stand. I used the Kreg Jig again to attach the plywood to the 2X4's so it's even on the outside of the stand for a smooth look.

I bought the doors at The Door Stop | Cabinet Doors | Kitchen Cabinet Doors | Cabinet Drawer Fronts
