Setting up my new 120 Gallon Pic heavy......

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
After filling I had a small leak on the pump and that was it.

Some of the highlights of the plumbing: This tank has 3 overflows, one internal surface overflow, typical overflow that skims the surface water and drains to the sump. I also added two midlevel external overflows that draw water from the lower/mid level of the tank. I did this because this is a used tank and it had 5 one inch holes in the back glass panel! I made two of the holes returns and the other three are for drains. You can never have too much drain capacity. I have three 1" drains going to a 2" main drain that goes to the filter sock. (pics below). Very simple to set up.
I'm using a filter sock in the sump, first time using a filter sock. It was really easy to set up. I got a 8" filter sock and holder and mounted it so the filter sock is at the sumps operating water level. I didn't want the sock to high because if it clogs up I want the excess water to overflow into the sump and not my living room. I'm optimistic about this filter sock method, it looks super easy to change out (I bought an extra sock). When it gets dirty I will replace it and work out a cleaning plan for the old sock.

you can just through the old dirty socks in the washer for 30 mins and done. just like new

Yeah, I think the filter sock idea/upgrade is going to happen on all my tanks.

The background is in and looks amazing. I just don't have the massive center overflow covered yet. I couldn't figure out how to make the curve around the overflow with the background. I ordered a background overflow cover http://www.aquatichouse.com/corals_and_plants/reefoverflow.asp
Hopefully it fits and looks good. Update pictures when the overflow cover comes in.

Bad news: My Cuban gar died. Heater malfunction in the 20L grow out :( From now on I'm using controllers for the heaters on every tank! Sucks!
Updates on the tank: Background is in, tank is filled (no leaks) and I went with pool filter sand for the bottom.

Most of the cloudiness was bubbles getting into the pump. I made an extension with spare vinyl hose from the bulkhead to a less bubble area of my sump. Super happy with the result.

Very nice tank, curious to see what is going to be put in there though.

Me too. I had a nice little Cuban gar that was hand feeding Tilapia and very personable and I killed it with a faulty heater:cry:

I might move my Aba aba to this tank and then take down the Aba aba's tank and put a background on it? I love these Designs by Nature backgrounds. THey are very easy to work with, they don't take up to much tank space, and they look great with many different versions.
