Setting up saltwater tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm in research stage also. I've read not to do reefs until atleast 8months after you get the nitrogen cycle and salinity right because it takes longer for salt water to "fully cycle" And be somewhat self sustaining. But almost Identical tto fresh get a filtration circulation heater and the one difference salinity correct. *for fish only/ FOWLR** reefs are completely different

I need to spark up my fish life

And so it starts. You think FOWLR that would be pretty easy. Research because even a FOWLR can be pricey. I looked into it...made a list and started pricing everything. Just can't justify the expense.

Research, Research and more RESEARCH man, I cannot count the dozens of hours I've spent researching.

I've realized that i should wait about 2 months after mixing the salt and putting the live rocks in before putting any fish in it and that I will be getting a protein skimmer, a heater, a Carbon reactor, the lighting for the corals and water propulsion thing. I found a chemical in Walmart that says that if I put it in it'll automatically make the water safe to put fish in. Is this true? Or is it a waist

1. think long and hard if this is something you would be dedicated to.
2. think long and hard if you want to spend lots o' cash.
3. Research, read, plan, research, plan, then start at #1 again. Go to step four after cycling through 1-3 many many many many many many times over.
4. Buy the biggest protein skimmer you can afford.

The fish hobby, especially the salt game is something that must be undertaken with a clarity of mind and purpose.

All the best! Good luck! :)
