does not look Mayan either.

As someone who 1st encountered Uros in '77-78 as an 11-12 year old; the pet shop owner and myself both knew it was "Cichlasoma". My oldest brother pointed towards what it was.....black and white pics in the Bunterbarsche Bulletin and original description and drawings in the 'big blue book' (of which I can't say where the book came from:ROFL:). So I've been familiar with the species for a long time. Is it pure? Who knows? But no and, if or buts the fish is primarily Uro!

Here folks. Moved him to another tank where he is breathing a bit easier. His color and pattern has normalized (is that a word?) so these pics should confirm pure plain ol uro ;)

You could have encountered Uros a thousand years ago, it doesnt make you an expert. With that said, and with the new pics, I stand by what I said. Not a Uro. Could it have some Uro in it? Maybe, but as someone that has bred them and currently has 2-4" grow outs, my Uro's look nothing like that. :D

Your right I ain't no expert. But been' around uro's for most of 35 years, so I know one when I see one. The last pic more then confirms by the stripes exhibited as spots. Here's a pic of one of my juvies from the early '80's: note the stripes exhibeted as spots starting from the tail spot.

Actually don't care what you think madnness, it's your turn for the guessing game now for over 6 months. What are you waiting for???? More then willing to play the game with you and anybody else for many, many years!

I too have dealt with Uro`s for many years. That is what it appears to be to me. I love the species. No it`s not as colorful as festae but it`a still a cool fish. I would also say if you have lfs that know the difference, do business with them as stay out of the ones that don`t care, they`re morons!

Segrest has both festae & uro's marked as "red terrors" in their catalog, some old trade names just refuse to die I guess .......
