Severe confusing on OB peacocks

There's nothing wrong, per se, with OB Peacocks or line breeding them to develop lines with desired characteristics. No different than fancy livebearers or discus or bettas or whatever.

It's just different than keeping and breeding lines of fish that are as authentic as possible to wild lines.

I'd bet that the first line cross between an OB Metriaclima and a Peacock didn't look like much. But a few generations of line breeding for color, shape and other characteristics resulted in the fish that we see today with striking colors and patterns.

One of those pics in the poster linked to above was stolen, from an image that I posted years ago. A photo of a red rubin that was sent to me almost 10 yrs ago by a breeder/importer south of me. The result of line breeding for color.

You guys are missing something.....all different lines of dogs are somewhat lab experiments. There would only be one type of dog if man didn’t interfere with the process.

I said that because it seems people shy away from hybrids. U tube is full of self proclaimed experts (of the regurgitation variety.....) that seem to Pooh Pooh hybrid cichlids. I have been seeing some truly beautiful hybrids that are “one of a kinds”. I’m not sure why anyone would shy away from them. I get the part about loosing specializations but is it really tha bad for tanked fish in the new world.

Dogs are bread for specializations and the award winners are pure and mostly age old breeds. However, there are still new breed being developed.
