Meh. Why not just buy play sand? Cheap, and you don't have to worry about any nasties in it....Well, not as much anyway...

i dont have to buy the lake michigan sand i just can really only get it when i got to my familys cottage up there and i like it more its a good color and its way softer

Very few actualy ;) Most smaller tortoises are very hard to get, expensive and hard to keep alive species(turts like hingeback, cape, tents, spider, etc) However if you are willing to have a bit larger species you cant do any better than herman´s tortoises:D Greeks and russians are also good but only buy captive breds. All however need outdoor habitats:popcorn:

Hrm. I have to wait until I can provide a good outdoor enclosure then...bummer :(

Although, I could always get a sulcata, and then let it go after a year or so, when it gets too big and/or too much work. :screwy:
