I'd say rotkeil definitely, based on the Rapps F1 rotkeils I have seen. They are gorgeous. I hadn't heard they were more aggressive than other types of sevs generally, but I've not kept rotkeils myself. With sevs, my experience has been some are very peaceful and others are very aggressive, varying by individual more so than species.

That's kinda what i was thinking but the few posts I read, people were stating their Rotkeil was chasing this or that, blah, blah...... My geos are the same way individually. Thanks Lucy!!

Hi there. Still hoping you go for the rot.
Well so far in my limited experience with the sevs... my small(3/4in) rott is a bit more aggressive than the 2 rescued 6/7" golds. Especially at feeding time.. They are all pigs but he is not afraid of the big guys and will go after their fins if he feels like it. But it may be a factor of age rather than type. None of them really go after the adult koi angel's veil fins tho. Just like other cichlids they are individuals and their temperments vary.
On one of the other forums (I think Cichlid-Forum) a guy named Blairo1 has a very mellow good sized beautiful Rott that's he has even "trained" to stay away from some of the plants. You should be able to access the site if you want to see a really beautiful rott and see what this guy has done with his tanks etc.

i think you should look at the pics of the diff variations and pick the one you find the most attractive as to your own taste....i have a few diff kinds.. and i like them all for different reasons...they are al very pretty...its all in personal taste....

With Sevs, are their behavior any different toward tankmates if I have one or multiple sevs?


and would you consider them more aggro toward conspecifics than geophagus??

Not to jump on the wagon, but i find Rapp's rotkeil to have some quality colors. I have rotkeil now, and while i enjoy them very much, I'm a little sad that I didnt buy from him.

I've got a juvy Inirida and 3 small rotkeils from rapps. I had planned on weeding the rotkeils down to one, so if you decide on them let me know since we are in the same area and I might be able to hook you up. I think the Inirida looks better though.
