If you don't get the fish from aquabid, I'd look to Jeff Rapps to fill your needs. I think he currently has a. latifrons, a really nice classic "blue acara" species. Very similar to a. pulcher. You could also go for one of the brasiliensis type geos if you are looking for something with a lot of color that does well on its own.

I had always thought the brasiliensis species did best in groups. Actually, I thought that was true for all geophagus species. I just know there are other earth eater genus out there that I don't know a lot about.

Edit: Rapps is generally my go to guy for SA/CA fish when I am looking for the best quality. In the case of the blue acaras, I am so worried they might be hybridized with green terrors, I may just go straight to him anyways. But the Aquabid fish look pretty good and I don't see any orange trim in the caudal fin like you do with green terrors and a lot of hybrids.

i have ordered from both. obviously you cant go wrong with rapps but this other dude is legit. my chocolates and orange shoulder severums came from him. nice guy, responsive, and good packaging. he has great deals too.. wish i could buy a batch of his grammodes and synspilums but i dont have room.. :/

The brasiliensis complex are only geos by name, some day they'll be reclassified. They do fine by themselves. My iporangensis had very high conspecific aggression, I started with 4 and rehomed 3.

Yeah, I realized after my last post that he has 2300+ positive reviews, so he must be worthy. LOL

Rapps also has A. metae listed. I had never seen this fish before and it looks awesome!
