Severum tankmates

I have a baby gold severum (1 in) and 5 juvie boesemani rainbows (1 - 1.5 in) growing out in a 28G tank.

I am in the market for a large tank- a 55, probably. I am wondering if any of my other current fish could possibly be housed in the same tank as the above stock plus an adult ancistrus (full grown at 5 in). I realize that all of these are longshots- just wanted to check to be sure.

1 honey gold gourami
3 otos
3 panda cories
5 cherry barbs

Personally, I think that a full grown severum, 5 full grown bosemanis and an adult BN pleco is already pushing it for a 55G. Plus I believe the sev would eat the otos and possibly try to eat the corys, which would be a disaster for both fish, as the corys have spines that could lodge in the sevs throat.

Most of the severums I have kept only bothered other cichlids and left everything else alone. And even then they never killed anything... just fought like cichlids tend to do.

My bro had cory cats with his severums and they completely ignored them.

the barbs, oto cats, and maybe the female betas may be looked a tlike food though bc they are so small

I have a Gold Sev, a sino cat, 1 baby sinspy, and a red tail shark. All of them in a 55g, the cat chases the sev and the shark is just a bully chasing all but the catfish!

definitely no on the betta, but small acaras might work, like Bujurquina or Krobia

you could still do the gourami and cories but i wouldnt recommend the others. the sev will do go in a 55g. i've had mine for a year now, got them at 2", and they have plenty of room still, my male is about 8" female is 5.5".

a con may work with the sev in a 55g

severums arent the MOST aggressive but compared to very peacful fish like bettas and otos i would say its dangerous. a full grown sev is about 6" or so it limits the space for tank mates. I have seen them work with other peaceful cichlids, such as my husband said with krobia or maybe curviceps and such.

a full grown severum is much larger than 6", my male severum is about 7-8" and not done. they will max out around 10" and get bulky

I like the idea of the con. How will it do with the bow? I have other tanks I can put the gourami, bettas, cories and otos in- I just wanted to make sure I didn't overlook fish I already have as tankmates before going out and buying additional fish (I need an excuse to give my bf if I try to buy any more fish.)

So, if I start with the fish below, can I add anything else for more color/activity without causing trouble? If needed, I could consider having the ancistrus live elsewhere. The rainbows might be harder to place elsewhere.

You know a choclate cichlid would work well with the sev and the red tailed shark. I would leave the ottos and cories out. Get any regular adult size rainbows and the tank should be fine. An adult sev will get close to the 10 inch mark.
