Hello all im new here :D

im upgrading from my 55 gallon to a 125 and i was wondering how many severums could live comfortably in it with 3 juruparis, a gold nugget pleco, and an albino bristle nose pleco its 72 by 18 by 23 i think

I have a friend who has over 180 fish in his 240 gallon including around 100 severums ... he has a ton of filters and does water changes weekly sometimes biweekly ... and the funny thing is that the fish get along and hes only lost a couple small fish ... he calls it stacking because it (takes the aggression out of them when there is no room to be aggressive) ... o largest severum is around 7 inches smallest is around an inch ... im not going to do this cause i like my fish to have room but has anyone else heard of stacking the tank like this and is it stressful to the fish?

100 severums? he'll be taking out at least 85% of those before they're full grown. most likely more. You can probably get 3 or 4 full grown sev's in a 125 wit those other tankmates.

btw i jumped the gun and didnt finish reading the post, 'stacking' or overstocking can reduce aggression, there was a poll about it some time ago, but it creates poor living conditions and is wrong in my opinion. It also can curb the natural before of the fish.

How many you put in there, depends on what you want to see. If you want to see more natural behaviors, possible breeding, or longer distance swimming, then limit the number of fish you put in there. If you want to see them interact with other fish you keep, again limit the number.

If you just want to collect Sevs and see their colors, and not necessarily their behavior, and true beauty, then you can add more than just a few.

I'm curious to see your buddies tank, got a photo? anyhow back to your question I would say anywhere from 6 to 8 sevs could live in there until you have one or two pairs that decide to spawn, then from there you would be at the mercy of the dominate pair who could stress out the inhabitants until the weaker fish die off.

Well here are some pictures of my friends tank

he has over 25 of each of these severums: (some a lot more than 25)
gold
green
red spotted
orange necktie
red shouldered
and around 10 turquoise

2 Leporinus
over 30 gourami - mix of kissing, blue, opaline, paradise, moonlight, snakeskin, gold, and pearl
10 blood parrots of mixed type
10 sun cats
5 Synodontis sailfins or whatever they are called
15 giant danios
3 different types of geophagus
this is just a rough estimate on the lower end

Well he traded some fish in from his catfish tank and got
11 young severums 1.5 inch - mix of gold, green, red shoulder
3 pearl gourami
5 moonlight gourami
6 giant danios

Some pics and please comment ... ill try to get his list of filters for his tank

this is the largest red spotted ... the color on my phone is bad but the real fish is amazing to look at
