Severums in a 125 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i agree with it being to many but i like the the looks... i love sevrums but for some reason i can't get them to live over about 5 inches. they die with no signs to why. so i just all together stopped buying them.

well he has well over 100 severums and from what he said over 300 fish in the aquarium ... the crazy thing is that hes only lost a few fish (3 pearl gouramis and a couple of moonlight and neon dwarf gouramis)

7 hydroflow sponge filters with 900 to 1250 powerheads
eheim pond canister filter with 2500 gallon per hour flow
750 lbs or rock sand gravel

But what are his parameters? You can have all the filtration you want, but if you're not keeping up with the waste, it means nothing. I'm sorry, that's just ridiculous. It's an injustice to those fish that will most likely never see a full mature size. There are simply too many there. Big deal that he's only lost a few fish, they're not that big. When they all start to really put on some size, his losses WILL go up, and that's assuming they do grow that large. Overstocking is a mild term, which your friend has taken to an uncalled for measure. Don't follow his lead.

quite a few of his severums are fully grown and he does clean the tank all the time ... i think its nuts but thats his decision

and im going to have at most 15 severums in my tank and will adjust accordingly when they reach a larger size or form a breeding pair

Sorry, 7" is not full grown....not even close. I have a 10" male, and from 7" to 10", there is easily twice the overall mass. Better rethink. 15 is ok if you are just trying to pair them out, otherwise that's way too much for a 125. As said before, somewhere around 6 would be plenty.
