looks male to me... but hard to tell this early... showing some good male traits though... great looking fish where did you get it from??

The new addition is most definately a male. And your female looks great! Leave them together, the male is showing the female that he is strong and deserves to be a father. It is good that he is larger, otherwise it is likely they wouldn't breed. Do some cool water changes, condition them with some live foods (not feeders, live bloodworms and insects always worked for me), provide a smooth rock angled at 45 degrees and before you know it you will have eggs.

Good luck!

The only problem is that she layed eggs before i got him, she layed them in a flower pot and i decided to get her a mate. After i introduced him about 2 weeks after she ate the eggs, she just hid behind the filter without a tail and wouldnt eat. I think i introduced him too early and she is not ready to bread yet. Is this correct?

I think you have introduced at the correct time. She will get to know him and when they feel comfortable they will likely breed. These things take time. My pair took 8 weeks to breed. So patience is a virtue. Give them good water, food and small cool wayer changes. But if your female has laid eggs before i dont imagine it will take too long.

How big is your tank? I have mine in a 60 and they bred so i thought i could put them in a 30 tall and get them to breed again and boy was I wrong( female was floating next to the filter intake) then I put them back in the 60 and they were fine again. I think since the 60 is longer they liked it better. So my point is that if your tank is small and tall try a long and short tank. Just putting my 2cents again.
