Sex this Jag...

It does look male. But everyones dealt with a shocker before. Being the larger size and individual look this one has, if this was mine id assume its a male. The good thing right now is at this size with a good appettite his growth will sky rocket. I love the blues he has in the fins. Hell be a stunner.

Thanks.... yeah...I was looking to have a solo male a year and a half ago... basically the only reason why I have a pair of jags is that the first one of my pair i bought that I thought was a male was not....
The pair in your pic is enough to fool me on which is which...at first glance I thought the top was male...they look so alike....mine to compare...

the top jag is a male.

View attachment 1008770i think youve got a male there. Within the next inch or two those spots will either completely change or not and you will know for sure. If that was a female she would actually arlready be big enough to breed. This was my pair back in the day, my male being on the bottom, females bars will stay while the males pattern will lighten a little, but interesting enough as they get larger males will change again.

Hey pops I meant this pair.....there is this observation i have been making to tell sexes apart that i thought was ruined ( i thought top was male)after i first looked at this pic...what I have noticed is that the maze like pattern usually on the males body also differs from the females when you compare their dorsal fins... I see it on my pair...on this pair...and saw it developing on my jag in question....

tellen me the bottom jag is the male? that can not be right, females not get the belly markings like a male.

I hear what you're saying pops...when I first looked at the pic I automatically thought the male was on top.. female bottom... and I noticed what i believe about the dorsal fins and thought an idea of mine gone....but unless I am reading it wrong or its a typo Loshmitchell101 is saying male on bottom female on top in that pic...they both appear just mature enough to breed...that may be the reason for their unexpected look....

I had to get off the phone and on the computer to see on a bigger screen..... On the vid and pic going by what I see and not what I read, your pair and his do look alike.. and with yours its obvious.. the darker more heavier spotted one being male and the yellow colored less spotted one the female...based on that I would have to agree with you....so is it a typo, a most unusual pair or is loshmitchell101 busting our chops? lol....

The male is the bottom in the pic I posted. He was just really small. I haf the female first and she was larger. The male in the pic is about 4.5". Theres actually eggs in that pot. Yhe pic was taken the day they laid eggs and were protecting them. the male is on the bottom and the female is above, she was.much larger at the time.
